From This Day Forward Marriage Conference
Denver, Colorado on September 22, 2007
Denver, CO—On September 22, 2007, 50 couples from several cities in Colorado, as well as Massachusetts, Nebraska and New Mexico participated in From This Day Forward, a one-day celebration of marriage commitment opened to the general public and held at the Embassy Suites Hotel Denver – Southeast in Denver, Colorado.
Sponsored by Family Ministries of the North American Division and co-sponsored by the Mid-America Union Conference and the Rocky Mountain Conference, this is the fourth and last From This Day Forward marriage conference scheduled for North America in 2007. Marriage conferences have already taken place in other cities earlier in the year.
The event consisted of presentations made by Allan and Deirdre Martin from the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University and Mike and Brenda Aufderhar from the Upper Columbia Conference. Willie Oliver from the North American Division’s Family Ministries served as moderator for the day.
During a day that lasted from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM, couples dealt with issues of oneness, communication, problem solving, forgiveness, sexual oneness and commitment. There was also a Q & A segment right after lunch.
“It facilitated communication and healing;” “Our marriage was revived;” “It was a fantastic refresher course;” were among the many comments made by participants in their evaluation of the conference.
The event concluded with the renewal of wedding vows and the challenge to be a strong witness by having a healthy marriage that will help build vibrant congregations to disciple people for Jesus. Twelve of the participants requested Bible studies and are being followed-up.
Five From This Day Forward marriage conferences are planned for 2008: Miami, Florida (March 8); Hamilton, Bermuda (June 21); Phoenix, Arizona (September 27); Seattle, Washington (November 8); and a Spanish language event in New York City (October 11).
